  23. Users who  have up  to now  installed an  ANSI version  of the  Avira
  24. AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium software pack on a Microsoft  Windows
  25. NT, Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP operating  system,
  26. receive update information when attempting to update.
  27.  
  28. When updating, please proceed as follows:
  29.  
  30. 1. Deinstall   the   installed   version   of   the   Avira   AntiVir
  31.    PersonalEdition Premium.
  32. 2. Download a current software pack  from the downoad section of  the
  33.    Avira      AntiVir      PersonalEdition      Premium       website
  34.    http://www.avira.com.
  35. 3. Install this software pack on your computer.

  38. 1 System requirements

  41. In order for Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium to run  properly,
  42. the computer system must fulfill the following requirements:
  43.  
  44. - Computer: Pentium or higher, at least 133 MHz
  45.  
  46. - Operating system
  47.   - Microsoft Vista or
  48.   - Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional, or
  49.   - Microsoft Windows 2000, SP 4 recommended
  50.   
  51. Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium also supports Microsoft Windows
  52. XP x64 Edition.
  53.   
  54. The display of the program  interfaces can differ, depending on  the
  55. operating system used.
  56.  
  57. - 40 MB free memory on the hard disk (more if quarantine is used)
  58.  
  59. - Min. 100 MB temporary memory on the hard disk
  60.  
  61. - Min. 40 MB of free main memory
  62.  
  63. - For all installations: Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher

  65. - For the installation of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium:

  77. 2 Important requirements for an installation
  78. ********************************************

  80. Ensure that the following  requirements are fulfilled so  that Avira
  81. AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium works properly on your computer:
  82.  
  83. - System requirements fulfilled
  84. - No other on-access scanner (also called Guard) installed
  85. - Installer has administrator rights
  86. - Internet/Intranet connection available
  87. - Valid license file 'hbedv.key' available (test license or 
  88.   full license)
  89. - All running programs on the computer exited

  92. 3 Incompatibilities with other programs
  93. ***************************************

  95. PGP Desktop Home and PGP Desktop Professional 9.0
  96.  
  97. At the moment the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium will not run
  98. smoothly  on  a  system  where  PGP  Desktop  Home  or  PGP  Desktop
  99. Professional 9.0 is  installed. There is  a malfunction in  both PGP
  100. products that may  prevent the AntiVir  MailGuard (POP3 Scanner)  of
  101. the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium from running or may  cause
  102. the system to become unstable.  Avira and PGP are currently  working
  103. to find a solution  for this problem. Up  until then it is  strongly
  104. recommended to deinstall the  PGP products before the  Avira AntiVir
  105. PersonalEdition Premium is installed.
  106.  
  107. Cygwin
  108.  
  109. If the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium runs on a system  where
  110. the product Cygwin is  installed, you might encounter  problems with
  111. updating the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. In a worst  case
  112. scenario  you  might  not  be  able  to  update  the  Avira  AntiVir
  113. PersonalEdition Premium at all.  Background to this behavior  is the
  114. fact  that the  cygwin process  "cygrun.srv.exe" together  with  the
  115. Microsoft Client/Server runtime server subsystem ("csrss.exe) causes
  116. a complete load of the system  once the update process of the  Avira
  117. AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium is started. It is therefore strongly
  118. recommended   to   deinstall  Cygwin   before   the  Avira   AntiVir
  119. PersonalEdition Premium is installed.

  122. 4 Licensing

  125. As a  registered customer, you receive  a digital license  file from
  126. us. With the aid of this license file you can turn the demo  version
  127. into a full  version. Without this  license file your  Avira AntiVir
  128. PersonalEdition Premium only runs as a demo version! 
  129.  
  130. The license file 'hbedv.key' contains an authorization code for  the
  131. products licensed by you. The file must be in the same directory  as
  132. your  corresponding  program package.  This  is normally  C:\Program
  133. Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. 
  134.  
  135. Avira  AntiVir   PersonalEdition  Premium   is  generally   supplied
  136. electronically  via download.  You will  therefore normally  receive
  137. your license file via email.  Please keep this license file  for the
  138. full license period.

  140. You will receive the license file:

  142. - with a new order of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium
  143. - with a change/extension of your existing license 
  144.  
  145. If  an  error  has  occurred  during  setup  when  copying  the file
  146. 'hbedv.key', or   you   have   already   installed   Avira   AntiVir
  147. PersonalEdition Premium,  there are  several ways  of installing the
  148. license file:

  153. If the product is already installed on your computer, you only  need
  154. to  double-click on  the symbol  of the  license file.  The  License
  155. Manager integrated in  Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition  Premium checks
  156. and installs the license automatically.

  158. Manual installation:

  161. Please  copy  the  files  'hbedv.key'  and  'lic_info.txt'  into the
  162. program directory of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. This  is
  163. normally C:\Program Files\AntiVir  PersonalEdition Premium. After  a
  164. restart  your  computer, Avira  AntiVir  PersonalEdition Premium  is
  165. available as a full version.

  172. thoroughly tested  by Avira  GmbH. Should  you encounter  any errors
  173. undiscovered by us, please let us know. Simply describe the  problem
  174. to us, together with the action which led to the error message. This
  175. will help us with the debugging process.

  178. (model,  hardware),  plus the  INI  file and  the  relevant logfiles
  179. generated by Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium.
