- Users who have up to now installed an ANSI version of the Avira
- AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium software pack on a Microsoft Windows
- NT, Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP operating system,
- receive update information when attempting to update.

- When updating, please proceed as follows:
-
- 1. Deinstall the installed version of the Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium.
- 2. Download a current software pack from the downoad section of the
- Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium website
- http://www.avira.com.
- 3. Install this software pack on your computer.

- 1 System requirements

- In order for Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium to run properly,
- the computer system must fulfill the following requirements:
-
- - Computer: Pentium or higher, at least 133 MHz
-
- - Operating system
- - Microsoft Vista or
- - Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional, or
- - Microsoft Windows 2000, SP 4 recommended
-
- Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium also supports Microsoft Windows
- XP x64 Edition.

- The display of the program interfaces can differ, depending on the
- operating system used.
-
- - 40 MB free memory on the hard disk (more if quarantine is used)
-
- - Min. 100 MB temporary memory on the hard disk
-
- - Min. 40 MB of free main memory
-
- - For all installations: Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
-
- - For the installation of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium:
- administrator rights

- 2 Important requirements for an installation
- ********************************************

- Ensure that the following requirements are fulfilled so that Avira
- AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium works properly on your computer:
-
- - System requirements fulfilled
- - No other on-access scanner (also called Guard) installed
- - Installer has administrator rights
- - Internet/Intranet connection available
- - Valid license file 'hbedv.key' available (test license or
- full license)
- - All running programs on the computer exited
-

- 3 Incompatibilities with other programs
- ***************************************

- PGP Desktop Home and PGP Desktop Professional 9.0
-
- At the moment the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium will not run
- smoothly on a system where PGP Desktop Home or PGP Desktop
- Professional 9.0 is installed. There is a malfunction in both PGP
- products that may prevent the AntiVir MailGuard (POP3 Scanner) of
- the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium from running or may cause
- the system to become unstable. Avira and PGP are currently working
- to find a solution for this problem. Up until then it is strongly
- recommended to deinstall the PGP products before the Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium is installed.

- Cygwin
-
- If the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium runs on a system where
- the product Cygwin is installed, you might encounter problems with
- updating the Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. In a worst case
- scenario you might not be able to update the Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium at all. Background to this behavior is the
- fact that the cygwin process "cygrun.srv.exe" together with the
- Microsoft Client/Server runtime server subsystem ("csrss.exe) causes
- a complete load of the system once the update process of the Avira
- AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium is started. It is therefore strongly
- recommended to deinstall Cygwin before the Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium is installed.

- 4 Licensing
- ***********

- As a registered customer, you receive a digital license file from
- us. With the aid of this license file you can turn the demo version
- into a full version. Without this license file your Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium only runs as a demo version!
-
- The license file 'hbedv.key' contains an authorization code for the
- products licensed by you. The file must be in the same directory as
- your corresponding program package. This is normally C:\Program
- Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium.

- Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium is generally supplied
- electronically via download. You will therefore normally receive
- your license file via email. Please keep this license file for the
- full license period.
-
- You will receive the license file:
-
- - with a new order of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium
- - with a change/extension of your existing license
-
- If an error has occurred during setup when copying the file
- 'hbedv.key', or you have already installed Avira AntiVir
- PersonalEdition Premium, there are several ways of installing the
- license file:

- Automatic installation:

- If the product is already installed on your computer, you only need
- to double-click on the symbol of the license file. The License
- Manager integrated in Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium checks
- and installs the license automatically.

- Manual installation:
- --------------------

- Please copy the files 'hbedv.key' and 'lic_info.txt' into the
- program directory of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. This is
- normally C:\Program Files\AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium. After a
- restart your computer, Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium is
- available as a full version.

- This version of Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium has been
- thoroughly tested by Avira GmbH. Should you encounter any errors
- undiscovered by us, please let us know. Simply describe the problem
- to us, together with the action which led to the error message. This
- will help us with the debugging process.

- If possible, please also send us the configuration of your computer
- (model, hardware), plus the INI file and the relevant logfiles
- generated by Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium.
